    My business career began in the supermarket industry at age 13 when I began working at Ketner’s Supermarkets, which was owned by my uncle Glenn Ketner, for the princely sum of, $.35 cents an hour. I was making so much money I didn’t know what to do with it all. After graduating from Wake Forest with a BBA degree and a major in accounting, I went to work for Foodtown stores, later to become Food Lion, which was founded by my dad, Brown Ketner, my uncle Ralph Ketner and their friend Bill Smith. There, I was fortunate enough to work directly with my dad and my uncle Ralph where I gained incredibly valuable and unique business experience and knowledge that, I assure you, wasn’t taught at Wake Forest. Even after my dad’s death. I was fortunate enough to continue to enjoy mentoring from my uncle Ralph until he died in 2016 at age 95.

    When my dad decided to leave Food Lion I made the decision to join him and he and I began developing a chain of restaurants that ultimately became known as Apple House Cafeterias and Buffets. We built that to a chain of 13 restaurants. While we both enjoyed the restaurant business, ultimately we made the decision that the help situation in the restaurant business was never going to get any better and, as such, we determined it was not a business we wanted to continue in. So we begin selling those restaurants off and transitioning into the real estate business. After spending several years studying the business, in 2002 we opened our real estate business and decided to continue with the Apple House name which we felt was an even better fit for the real estate business.

    My extensive business background and unique business training from two of the Titans of business has proved to be invaluable in the development of our real estate firm and, through God’s help and guidance, we have become one of the most successful real estate firms in Rowan County, NC.     After graduating from North Carolina State University with a BS in Mathematics Education in 1988 I started my teaching career. Twelve years later I earned my Master of Education degree at Catawba College and National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Math education. Shortly after earning those credentials in my career field, I decided I wanted to become a licensed real estate broker.     I began my career in real estate in ‘multi-family’, helping people find their perfect apartment home.     I am a graduate of The Realtors Institute and have over 35 years of real estate experience. As a member of the Salisbury Rowan Association of Realtors, I served on the Board of Directors as an Officer. I was also President of William R. Kennedy Realty for 30 years. My extensive public service includes 22 years on the Salisbury City Council. I have been Vice President of the N.C. League of Municipalities Risk Management Board of Trustees, a delegate to local, regional, state and national conferences creating policies for cities throughout the United States, and am retired from the Rowan Salisbury School System after 28 years as an educator.

    I have served as Chairman of the Salisbury Rowan Community Action Agency which provides programs to the underserved population in our region. I also served as a Chairman of the First Legacy Community Credit Union, an agency providing banking services to the unbanked population in our region. I am past Chairman and Trustee at Southern City AME Zion Church. Currently I serve on the Salisbury Community Foundation.
